Short Course Title |
Preparation and Interpretation of
Structural Drawings for Construction Works |
|
Description of the
Short/Professional Course |
The Short Course on
Preparation and Interpretation of Structural Drawings is a practical,
competency-based training programme designed to equip participants with
skills required to prepare, read, interpret and coordinate structural
drawings used in construction projects. It integrates structural design
principles with structural detailing, enabling participants to translate
engineering calculations into accurate construction drawings and interpret
structural details during project implementation. |
|
Mode of Delivery |
Face-to-face professional training
combining guided instruction, practical exercises, demonstrations, case
studies and participant application. |
|
Course Contents |
• Introduction to structural drawings • Engineering drawing fundamentals • Structural design concepts • Preparation of structural drawings • Reinforcement detailing • Interpretation of structural drawings • Structural drawing software • Coordination of drawings • Site application of structural drawings • Practical exercises • Professional practice |
|
Target Participants |
Civil engineers, structural
engineers, graduate engineers, assistant engineers, engineering technicians,
construction supervisors, site engineers, resident engineers, quantity
surveyors involved in construction, building inspectors, contractors,
consulting engineers and final-year civil engineering students. |
|
Prerequisites |
Basic knowledge of civil
engineering or construction technology; basic engineering drawing skills;
fundamental knowledge of reinforced concrete structures; and basic computer
literacy. |
|
Expected Learning Outcomes |
• Explain the purpose and importance of structural drawings
in construction projects • Apply engineering drawing standards, symbols, scales and
dimensioning techniques • Prepare structural drawings for reinforced concrete
elements • Develop reinforcement detailing and Bar Bending Schedules • Interpret structural drawings for construction • Coordinate structural drawings with architectural
drawings • Detect common drawing discrepancies and detailing errors • Apply relevant codes, standards and specifications • Use ArchiCAD and related drafting software • Support quality control and inspection using structural
drawings |
|
Training Methodology |
Interactive lectures,
demonstrations, hands-on CAD laboratory sessions, practical detailing
exercises, case studies, group discussions, site-based examples, individual
assignments and a capstone project. |
|
Software and Training Resources |
ArchiCAD; Microsoft Excel for Bar
Bending Schedules; structural drawing templates; sample structural
calculation sheets; and real construction project drawings. |
|
Duration |
Five (5) Days Intensive
Professional Training – 40 Contact Hours, with a Ten (10) Days Comprehensive
option – 80 Contact Hours on request. |
|
Certification |
Participants who successfully
complete the training and satisfy the applicable course requirements will
receive a University Certificate of Completion. |
|
