Training/Event Description

The Department of Electrical and Power Engineering at Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) invites applications from interested participants to attend a five-day professional/short course on Electrical Building Design and Documentation Using AutoCAD. The course is designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills in electrical building design, engineering calculations, AutoCAD drafting, documentation, verification and preparation of professional electrical design drawings in accordance with applicable IEC/ISO standards and relevant Tanzanian requirements.

1. Electrical Building Design Principles, Standards and Design Basis,
2. AutoCAD Setup, Templates, Layers, Symbols, Blocks and Drawing Standards,
3. Architectural Drawing Interpretation and Electrical Design Coordination,
4. Electrical Load Assessment, Maximum Demand and Phase Balancing,
5. Lighting, Emergency Lighting and Lighting Controls,
6. Electrical Distribution Systems, Single-Line Diagrams (SLD), Riser Diagrams and Distribution Boards,
7. Final Circuits, Socket Outlets, Dedicated Loads and Essential Power Systems,
8. Cable Sizing, Voltage Drop, Cable Containment and Short-Circuit Calculations,
9. Electrical Protection, Earthing, Bonding, Surge and Lightning Protection,
10. Energy Efficiency, Power Factor, Smart Controls and Demand-Side Management,
11. BOQ, Technical Documentation, Verification, Commissioning and Integrated Electrical Building Design Project.

Target Group:

Electrical engineers, graduate engineers, technicians, consultants, electrical contractors, building-services personnel, and MUST Engineering students interested in electrical building design and AutoCAD-based engineering documentation.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to interpret architectural drawings and electrical design requirements; prepare electrical design bases and coordinated AutoCAD drawings; perform load, maximum-demand, cable-sizing, voltage-drop and short-circuit calculations; design lighting, distribution, final circuits, earthing and protection systems; apply energy-efficiency and demand-side management measures; and prepare professional electrical design documentation, BOQs, compliance checklists, inspection and testing documents, and commissioning records.

Mode of Delivery:

Physical (Face-to-Face) Training, comprising approximately 35% technical instruction, 50% supervised practical and engineering calculation work, and 15% assessment and technical presentation.

Participation Fee: TZS 750,000 per Tanzanian participant, TZS 300,000 per MUST Engineering Student participant, and USD 950 per Non-Tanzanian participant.
